New painting from my travels to Venice, Italy/ 2009

"Canal Scene - Venice, Italy"/ Oil on Canvas/ 16"x20"/ $6,000
I was immediately captivated by this beautiful villa in Venice, Italy. The two statues were what first caught my attention as I began to think of how many centuries they had been there and yet, they were just part of the Venetian daily life and now, mine. The green moss growing along the steps and the greenish color of the still water were perfect ingredients for a great painting. Seeing the boat docked in the canal, I knew this was not only a beautiful, picturesque scene, but also someone's home. The building I painted next door to the villa is the famous "Ca' D'Oro (Golden House), built 1420-1441, which has been open to the public since 1984 and houses a rich collection of art works. To all who have been to Venice, I hope my painting immediately transports you to the Grand Canal and the sights and sounds that only Venice has to offer. To those who haven't been, I hope this painting will inspire you to visit this great city someday.
